2006 AEA BOOK LIST

Standards

Standards For Adoption Exchanges
In order to promote greater uniformity of exchange service delivery, define common terminology and data to be collected, the AEA has developed standards for service. The standards presented in this book are based on a review of the policies and procedures of exchanges in the United States. They represent the most frequently used policies and procedures. Final formulation of the standards has evolved from comments by AEA members, extensive discussion of principles and issues by the AEA board and the AEA standards committee. Development of the standards provided an opportunity for exchange staff to examine their practice, to define objectives, to clarify concepts and to affirm convictions about achieving permanency for children.

"How to Make Adoption an Affordable Option"
is for people who would like to consider adoption but are reluctant because they believe that the process is too expensive. It is also for families who -- caught up in the emotions of adopting -- may not have given serious thought to some of the less obvious financial aspects of adoption. In this booklet, you'll find out about expenses common to most adoptions, as well as those that are unique to the adoption of waiting children, to independent adoptions, and to international adoptions. You'll also learn about financial assistance and tax breaks available to adoptive parents.
If you are thinking seriously of adopting, don't let the myths about the costs deter you. On the other hand, don't let your emotions blind you to the real costs. By careful financial planning, you can make adoption an affordable option for your family and provide a nurturing environment for a child.
