Only members can serve on the AEA Board of Directors. As a
member, you can step forward for nomination and election to the Board
as vacancies occur. AEA Board Members meet quarterly and have the
privilege of governing and shaping the vision of AEA.
Serve on Working Committees. You
don’t need to be an AEA Board Member to serve on many of AEA’s
volunteer committees. As an active member, you can help to plan
upcoming conferences while serving on the Conference Committee, shape
AEA’s Standards & Ethics from a seat on the Standards Committee,
insure diversity and growth in the organization through participation
on the Membership Committee, and more!
Free CEUs, Webinars
Remain abreast of the latest approaches in recruitment through AEA. AEA
offers continuing education units from the National Association of
Social Workers for its innovative practice trainings. Trainings are
free for members, and are held six times a year. The trainings are led
by experts in the field and offer solutions to tricky topics relevant
to recruitment, such as: recruiting under restrictions set by court,
busting through barriers to permanency, navigating the interstate
adoption process, reaching faith-based congregations, and more.
Held biannually, members receive deep discounts on the registration
fee, and the opportunity to receive up to 10 hours of free continuing

AEA offers a quarterly publication for members to promote their waiting
children and families to other members, and facilitates a call for
members to present their children.

fundraising, leading child welfare organization through system change,
human resources, system integration/mergers, and more.
Peer to Peer PUBLICATIONS
AEA’s Member of the Month publication highlights a member who has
implemented a successful strategy to recruit or retain homes for
children, teens, and medically-fragile youth in foster care. This
publication, driven by peers, gives members insight into practical
cutting-edge techniques they can implement right away.
STANDARDS in Practice
As the country’s only national association of adoption exchanges, AEA’s
Standards in Practice is codified by our Board of Directors, and issued
especially for members.

Members also received notification about the AdoptUSKids localization
grants as the RFP was released in 2013 and again in 2015. While not
