Kansas Senator Laura Kelly is calling on the Department for Children and Family to come up with new procedures for responding when children in foster care system go missing. She may even go as far as introducing legislation to bring about this change but hopes a new procedure can be implemented by all entities working together on a new protocol.
North Carolina Cumberland County Department of Social Services and its partner organizations are forming a collective impact to focus on working together to help youth aging out of foster care. They will be using more than $800,000 in grant money to establish a new program "A Model Approach for Change in Child Welfare" to improve the outcomes of youths who age out of foster care.
Pennsylvania Temple University is partnering up with the University of Pennsylvania Field Center for Children's Policy to ensure college is more accessible to youth in the foster care system. In order to counterbalance the struggles of these students Temple is granting free housing to them over academic breaks.
