Alaska tribes and state sign first state-tribal compact for child welfare in the country.  Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, member of Bethel's tribe Orutsararmiut Native Council and former general counsel for the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium Valerie "Nurr'araaluk" Davidson raised the idea of a compact like the tribal health agreement signed in 1994. 

California Los Angeles Superior Court has finalized a settlement that requires Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services to keep foster parents notified of upcoming court hearings of children in their care as well as to provide seven-days notice of the agency's plan to remove a child from their home.  Advokids' Co-Director Margaret Coyne states the settlement will have statewide implications that serves as a warning to respect the legal rights of foster parents

Missouri Governor Eric Greitens and First Lady Sheena Greitens has changed the requirement that youth in foster care will not need to pay the fee to obtain their birth certificate, increasing their chances to obtain driver's licenses and employment.
