California nonprofit United Friends of the Children and USC's Dworak-Peck School of Social Work partnered together to put on the 18th annual College Within Reach Fair on October 28. More than 40 colleges including Cal State Los Angeles, UC Santa Barbara, Azusa Pacific University, USC, Cal State Long Beach and Fullerton College took part in this college fair for assisting foster youth to attend college.
Maryland nonprofit Manasseh House provides training and support to youth aging out of foster care by reducing the chances of homelessness, unemployment, criminal charges and other circumstances. Dr. Gianna Talone-Sullivan, founder of the program hopes it will provide emotional support and opportunities unavailable to those who age out of the public programs.
North Carolina's child welfare system received a federal review in 2016 stating it did not meet several standards. In response, the Department of Human Health Services and Children's Bureau partnered to create the Family/Child Protection and Accountability Act to establish a 'working group' of county commissioners, social services workers, court officials, attorneys and other professionals tasked to re-organize the services.
