Michigan Auditor General, the Legislature's main oversight arm is suing the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in the state Court Claims. The Auditors are requesting the judge order Michigan's child welfare agency to hand over adoption records to investigate Governor Rick Snyder's administration because DHHS Director Nick Lyon is manipulation of records as well as being under federal court supervision after several child death suits.

Missouri's Child Division (CD) can continue to use psychotropic medication for youth in foster care. The class-action lawsuit alleged that CD failed to keep accurate medical records and lacked safeguard protocols. The use of psychotropic drugs prescribed for youth in foster care has been a national issue since the 2000s. In 2010 after a young child was prescribed psychotropic drugs in foster care committed suicide, the Government Accountability Office(GAO) published a report reviewing the findings of prescribed psychotropics. 

New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has signed legislation bill A.7553/S.4835, amendments to the Family Court Act and the Social Services law that gives siblings separated by foster care the right to visit and contact each other.
