Studies show that Black/African American children in foster care are less likely to achieve timely permanency than their White/Caucasian peers. Researchers suggest the reason Black children/youth have lower adoption rates than White/Caucasian children stems from issues related to systemic racism and implicit bias.

While diligent recruitment, family finding and other strategies to reduce the number of children who age-out of the system without permanency is a specialty of AEA members, the process to connect Black/African American children with adoptive families or relatives involves critical and frequent decision that are inherently susceptible to bias.

Join us and hear from experts at the Center for the Study of Social Practice (CSSP) to further discuss what the disproportionality data suggests about our practices and policies as they relate to implicit bias. Meeting registrants will be required to complete two pre-work assignments: a pre-session online module 1-4 and complete a process map to identify adoption recruitment/placement decision points within their organization's structure.

The webinar will include a review of case studies based on pre-work findings by CSSP; attendees will respond to reflective poll questions as well. You will not want to miss this important 90-minute interactive virtual workshop to ensure our work with children and families is performed fairly and leads to be the best outcomes for the children.

This webinar is for AEA members only. Not a member yet, please visit, https://www.adoptea.org/page/joinaea to learn more about membership.
