Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders are twice as common as Autism, yet this disorder often goes undiagnosed (or is misdiagnosed). Adoptive, foster and kinship families are seeing high rates of children who have been prenatally exposed to alcohol and traditional strategies (parenting and teaching), generally are ineffective with this population and can lead to turmoil in the family.

Participants will learn the following:

  • The defining components of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
  • The commonality of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder; undiagnosed or misdiagnosis
  • Strategies that are more relational focused and can improve behaviors as well as attachment.
Presenter: Barb Clark, Parent Support & Training Specialist, North American Council on Adoptable Children (NACAC)
