Louisiana lawmakers are putting together a tax deal to avoid deep budget cuts. This spending plan would shield the child-welfare agency from reductions. Specifically the foster care program would be expanded to pay for students until age 21.

Minnesota legislators are proposing the Minnesota African American Preservation Act to be created within the Department of Human Services. An African American Child Welfare Oversight Council will be created to directly oversee and review on case plans and services. This is similar to the Indian Child Welfare Act.

Pennsylvania Philadelphia's Department of Human Services and the Office of Homeless Services have partnered together to form a new program called Rapid Rehousing for Reunification. This is the first of its kind that works with families who are working to be reunified with their children and only housing instability is preventing it.
