Florida Department of Children and Families former deputy George Sheldon known as the "champion for children" has passed away. His accomplishments include curbing the use of psychiatric medication on children in foster care, increased "normalcy", as well as dramatically reducing children being separated from families.

Kansas lawmakers are recommending the Child Welfare System Task Force to examine the state's privatized child welfare model that was enacted in the early 90's. The task force is expected to make recommendations to the Legislatures at the end of the year.

New Jersey Department of Children and Families provides services to youth in foster care until age 21. At age 14, a child's transition plan is launched and evaluated on a yearly basis to ensure the services being utilized help provide permanent support.
