Alaska Native tribes and state officials like the governor and governor lieutenant criticize the Indian Child Welfare Act ruling by U.S. District Judge Reed O'Connor who deemed the Child Welfare Act violates the constitution's equal protection and amounts to racial discrimination.
Arizona nonprofit Arizonans for Children is creating "opportunities that provide effective solutions to alleviate hardships and improve the fragile lives of the abused, abandoned, and neglected children in foster care." The organization sponsors mentoring and tutoring programs, as well as assisting youth who are aging out of foster care.
New York CIty's Administration for Children's Services has become the nation's first child protective agency to open a food pantry, in hopes that it will decrease the rate of children entering the foster care system. Critics are concerned that accessing the food pantry will open up families to further investigation.
