IndianaGovernor Eric Holcomb has announced that foster care will expand services to age 23. By extending foster care services advocates are hoping that youth will be able to find employment and graduate college with the support of their foster families.
KansasDepartment for Children and Families is broadening the number of organizations in the foster care system and centralizing child-placement decisions to help increase accountability. In July 2019 the system will rely on recipients of state grants rather than contracts in a matching system designed to keep children closer to home and address conflict of interest among providers.
Washington foster parent, Liz Wisham supports the New Lake Stevens center, a camp like receiving center for foster youth to be admitted to when first entering the system while a permanent home is being found for them. This new center is a pilot program thought up by Wisham and is connected to the Cedar Springs Camp, where all 300 acres and their amenities will be available for use.
