US - The Foster Youth Internship Program (FYI) consisting of a group of 12 former foster youth who have completed their congressional internship have submitted their recommendations. Anna Zhang, a graduate of Florida A&M University recommends for steps to ensure foster care placements are done right the first time more often. She would require states to develop strategies for matching foster parents with youth, as well as amending the Preventing Sex Trafficking and Strengthening Families Act to require the list of rights in each foster youth's case plan to include the right to prior notice and review of placement changes.
GeorgiaFamily Treatment Court offers a pilot program to help families have access to resources early, to ensure success. The 18-month accountability court program started in 2006 and focuses on substance abuse treatment and life skills training. Getting the program started before going to court can possibly prevent children coming into foster care.
Montana Dawson Community College in Glendive has created the Dawson Promise, a program that assists homeless foster youth by giving them year-round housing, employment, assistance with resumes and interviews, and a certificate or two-year degree. The community is also rallying and many families are participating in the Adopt-a-Buc program that provides host families to youth, a home away from home. Students will receive these benefits without any debt.
