Illinois Department of Child and Family Services is moving to a new state insurance for children in foster care who have been adopted or are in a subsidized guardianship. The Cook County public guardian has outlined multiple issues concerning the severe disruption in critical care and has accused the state of balancing its budget on the backs of medically fragile children.

New York State adoptees are finally able to access their original birth certificates without a court order starting on January 15. This is the first time in 85 years that a legislation is providing adoptees with access. It is a monumental law but some feel the legislation does not go far enough.

West Virginia House Bill 4415 is being recommended by the West Virginia House and Human Resources Committee. This bill would create a Missing and Endangered Child Advisory System to alert the public and law enforcement of a missing child from foster care. This is due to the increased rise in missing children.
