Alabama Department of Human Resources is entering into a partnership with a US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Public Housing Authorities (PHA) to assist youth under age 25 with a history of child welfare involvement, and secure adequate housing. This Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) initiative aims to assist youth previously in foster care at risk of homelessness and must meet certain requirements.

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Children's Services agency as awarded funding from the Federal Adoption and Legal Guardianship Incentive Payments Program. These funds will be used to address several improvements to protect the safety of Michigan children by partnering with private child-placing agencies statewide.

Oregon legislation is introducing better oversight of for-profit behavioral hospitals where children in foster care are being chemically and physically restrained. The Citizens Commission on Human Rights International (CCHR), the mental health industry watchdog is supporting this law after it was reported that children were chemically strained and put in seclusion.
